In a compact apartment, a blind that sits neatly in the window frame can give back the wall space a pair of curtains takes — and control privacy more precisely.

Alternating sheer and solid bands: slide them into line for light and a filtered view, offset them for privacy.
In short
For most flats, zebra blinds are the most versatile: they move from privacy-with-light to fully closed with one cord. Use roller blackout blinds in bedrooms, PVC or venetian blinds in the kitchen and bathroom, and fit inside the recess where the frame is deep enough. For rented flats, ask about mounts that need minimal drilling.
What your flat asks of blinds

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
A blind fitted inside the window recess looks tidy and takes up no wall space at all — but the recess must be deep enough for the blind to clear the sliding window's handles. A blind fitted outside, above the frame, covers the edges better (less light leak around the sides) and is the better choice in a bedroom where darkness matters.
We measure the recess depth and the handle projection on every window, because two windows that look the same in a flat can need different fittings.
Living room: zebra or a light-filtering roller, perhaps with vertical blinds on the balcony slider. Bedrooms: blackout roller or zebra blackout. Children's room: cordless or with cord safety fittings. Kitchen: venetian or PVC so grease wipes off. Bathroom: PVC, which tolerates steam.
Using one colour family across the flat makes small rooms feel connected. Different blinds in different rooms is fine; different colours in every room tends to look busy.
Many rented flats have a small number of existing holes from previous fittings. Inside-recess blinds can sometimes reuse them or fit with minimal new fixings. Some lighter blinds can be held with clamp brackets on the window frame itself. We'll tell you honestly what your frame will hold.
If you're letting the flat out, zebra and roller blinds are durable, simple for tenants to use and quick to clean between lets.
In the living room, a blind for privacy plus a pair of sheer curtains for softness is a common combination in flats. The blind does the work; the curtains make the room feel less like an office. In bedrooms, a blackout blind behind a decorative curtain is the most effective way to get a properly dark room.
In Goa
Aluminium sliding windows in Goan flats often run with condensation in the monsoon, especially where an AC keeps the room cool. Water runs down the glass and into the bottom of a blind fitted tight to the frame. Leave a small gap at the bottom, choose fabrics that tolerate damp, and wipe the sill regularly in July and August.
In sea-facing flats, choose blinds with aluminium or plastic components rather than painted steel, which will mark over time.
