Flat & Apartment · Mosquito Nets
Most Goan flats have aluminium sliding windows and a balcony door — and mosquitoes that arrive at dusk. Made-to-measure nets let you keep both open.

What matters most
Setting
System
Pleated screen, side-opening
Mesh
Coated fibreglass or polyester mesh
Frame
Powder-coated aluminium, stainless fixings
Pleated mesh folds into a slim stack, so a wide opening needs no heavy panel and no bottom lip to trip on. Near the sea, plain steel screws and untreated mesh corrode within a season or two. Rinse mesh and track with fresh water after the monsoon.
In short
For flats, a sliding net on the aluminium window frame is usually the simplest answer: it runs in its own channel and slides with the window. The balcony door suits a pleated or sliding net. Measure each window individually — builder sizes vary more than they appear.
What your flat asks of mosquito nets

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
If your window frame has a spare track, a sliding net shutter can run in it. If not, we can fit a slim frame with its own track. Either way, the net is made to the exact size of the opening, with brush seals at the edges so there are no gaps when it's closed.
Measure each window individually. Two windows in the same flat can differ by a few millimetres — enough to leave a gap mosquitoes will find.
The balcony door is used constantly, so the net must be easy. Pleated nets fold to the side in a slim frame and have a very low threshold — good for children and older people. Sliding door nets work well on wide sliders where the frame allows a separate track.
These windows are often left open for ventilation, especially in the monsoon when the air is heavy. A fixed or sliding net here makes a noticeable difference. Choose a mesh that allows good airflow and is easy to clean of kitchen grease.
A flat cools down best when air can move straight through it — from the balcony door to a window or the main door on the other side. Without nets, most people close up at dusk and switch on the AC. With nets on the openings at both ends, you can leave the flat open on a breezy evening and save the AC for the hottest nights.
It matters most during a power cut on a monsoon night, when the fans stop and the AC is off. The only relief is opening up, and a flat with netted windows can do that without a night of bites.
It is a common hope that a fifth-floor flat will be above the mosquitoes. In practice they ride the lift, the stairwell and the breeze, and they breed in the water that collects on balconies and in planters. Upper floors usually see fewer, not none; nets are worth having at any height.
Many tenants want nets but can't make major changes to the frame. Sliding nets that use the existing track, or framed nets with minimal fixings, are usually possible. Landlords letting a flat can make it more attractive to tenants by fitting nets before the next lease.
In Goa
Apartment complexes in Goa often have stagnant water in the monsoon — in drains, planters and construction sites nearby — and mosquito numbers rise accordingly. Nets on every window and the balcony door are the most reliable protection.
In sea-facing flats, clean sand and salt from the net tracks after the monsoon so they keep sliding smoothly.
