Light-filtering roller fabric: soft, even light and daytime privacy. For a bedroom, choose blackout fabric and side channels.
In short
For a bedroom in Goa, a blackout roller blind is the simplest way to make the room dark: it fits close to the glass and leaves the wall free. If you want daylight control as well, a zebra blind works by day and a blackout roller behind it by night. Roman blinds give a softer look where you would otherwise want a curtain.
What your bedroom asks of blinds
See it in your bedroom
We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
A blind fitted inside the window recess looks neat and leaves the frame visible, but it always leaves a thin gap of light at each side. A blind fitted on the wall above the window, overlapping the opening by a few centimetres each side, is darker — the better choice when blocking light is the point.
Goan flats often have aluminium sliding windows with handles and locks that stick out into the recess. We measure the depth carefully so the blind clears them; sometimes that means fixing it outside the recess anyway.
Blinds and curtains are not either-or. A blackout roller blind tucked inside the recess does the work of darkness, and a light linen curtain in front softens the room and frames the window. This often costs less than a fully blackout-lined curtain on a very wide window, and it stops the edge leaks a curtain alone can leave.
Blackout blind fabrics come in plain weaves, linen textures and embossed finishes; choose a lighter colour facing the street so the house looks consistent from outside. A chain control is simple and reliable. In a child's bedroom, ask for a child-safe chain tensioner or a cordless mechanism.
If several bedroom blinds need to go up and down together, or one sits on a high window, a motorised blind run from a remote or a phone is worth considering — especially in rooms where the blinds come down every night.
Vertical blinds clack in an AC draught or a breeze and rarely block light well — they belong on office glass. Real wooden venetians are lovely, but in a humid bedroom on an outside wall the slats can warp; faux-wood or aluminium slats are the safer slatted choice.
In Goa
Raise blinds fully on dry mornings in the monsoon so the fabric and the glass can air. A blind left down against a sweating window for weeks will mark at the bottom where the bar sits on the sill. Most roller fabrics can be wiped with a damp cloth and a little mild soap.
If the flat or house is locked up from June to September, roll every blind up before you leave. Roller and zebra blinds kept tightly rolled stay cleaner and drier than fabric left hanging.

FAQ
Blinds suit small windows, rooms where furniture sits close to the glass, and flats with sliding windows. Curtains feel softer and insulate a large window better. Many Goan bedrooms use a blackout blind for darkness with a light curtain in front for looks.
A blackout roller blind fitted outside the recess with a generous overlap, or with side channels. A blackout-lined roman blind is a close second with a softer look.
Polyester and coated blind fabrics resist it well if the room is aired. Problems start when a blind stays down against wet glass for weeks — raise it on dry days and wipe the sill.
Yes. We fix to the wall or ceiling above the slider, or inside the frame where there is enough depth, and allow for the handles and the overlapping shutters.
