For your home
The room you need dark at six in the morning, cool at two in the afternoon, sealed against mosquitoes at dusk and private from the lane all night. Everything in it should help you sleep.

Bedroom in Goa
In Goa the sun is up early and strong, and in an east-facing bedroom it lands on the pillow long before the alarm. Most bedrooms here run an air conditioner for much of the year, so whatever hangs at the window also decides how hard that AC works. And from about sunset, the mosquitoes arrive — through the window you opened for the breeze, the balcony door, or the gap under the curtain.
Bedrooms in Goan homes also sit close to other people. A ground-floor room in a village house may open onto a lane; a flat in Margao, Porvorim or Mapusa often looks straight into the next building. Privacy has to work with the lights on, not just in daylight. Then there is the monsoon: a bedroom with a wardrobe on an outside laterite wall and a window that is shut for days at a time is where the house first smells of damp.
We plan a bedroom around sleep. Which window lets in the first light, how dark the room needs to be and for whom, where the AC blows, which openings need a net, and what will stay fresh through June to September. Curtains, blinds, a small sofa, the wall behind the bed and the rug follow from those answers.

For most bedrooms in Goa, choose a lined curtain with a blackout or dim-out lining, hung on a track that runs past the window on both sides and as close to the ceiling as possible.

For a bedroom in Goa, a blackout roller blind is the simplest way to make the room dark: it fits close to the glass and leaves the wall free.

A motorised track or blind in the bedroom is worth it if you want to wake to daylight, close blackout curtains without getting up, or keep the room shaded on a schedule.

Most bedrooms in Goa suit a compact two-seater, a slim settee or a single armchair, made to measure so it fits the space between the bed and the window without blocking a door or a wardrobe.

For most bedrooms in Goa, a fluted or plain panel in PVC or WPC behind the bed is the most practical choice: it is moisture-tolerant, easy to wipe and does not mind the monsoon.

For a bedroom in Goa, paper one wall — usually behind the bed — with a vinyl or non-woven wallpaper, which tolerates humidity and wipes clean.

For most bedrooms in Goa, place a rug that extends 45 to 60 centimetres beyond the sides and foot of the bed, so your feet land on it.

FAQ
The window. Getting the room dark enough in the morning, private at night and cooler in the afternoon makes the biggest difference to how you sleep. Add mosquito nets at the same visit so you can open the windows in the evening.
Yes. One home visit covers every window and door, the mosquito nets, the wall behind the bed and the floor. We bring samples, measure everything and send a single written quote.
Yes — flats, village houses, villas and rentals across North and South Goa, from our studio in Benaulim. Flats often need slimmer blinds and nets that fit aluminium sliding windows, which we measure for on site.
