The principal suite of a villa or bungalow: a big room with a balcony door, a sitting corner, a dressing area and an en-suite — and one wall everybody notices, behind the bed.

Master Bedroom in Goa
A master bedroom in a Goan villa or bungalow is usually several spaces in one. There is the bed and the wall behind it, a sitting area by the window or the balcony, a walk-through dressing space, and an en-suite with its own small window. Each part has different light and different needs, and the room only feels calm when they are planned together rather than one window at a time.
These rooms also tend to have the biggest openings in the house — full-height glass or a pair of French doors onto a balcony that faces the sea, the fields or the garden. Ceilings are often 3 metres or more, and in older Portuguese-era houses higher still. That is wonderful in the evening and a challenge at six in the morning, when the person who sleeps on the window side wants the room dark and the other wants coffee on the balcony.
We plan a master suite as one design: layered curtains or blinds for sleep and for the sitting area, a statement wall behind the bed, mosquito protection on the balcony door, a rug for each zone, and — where it makes life easier — motorised tracks on the windows nobody can reach. Then we fit it in a single, coordinated job.

In most villa master bedrooms we recommend two layers on a ceiling track: a sheer at the front of the glass for daytime and a blackout-lined curtain in front of it for sleep, with a ripple-fold or pinch-pleat heading.

In a villa master bedroom, blinds usually work alongside curtains rather than replacing them: roman blinds on a bay or a window seat, a moisture-proof faux-wood or PVC blind in the en-suite, skylight blinds where the roof is glazed, and a slim blackout roller hidden behind curtains on the main window if total darkness matters.

In a villa master bedroom, motorise the curtains you use every day and the windows you cannot reach: the blackout layer on the main glass, the balcony door, and any high or skylight blinds.

For a villa master bedroom, panel the full wall behind the bed — wider than the bed and the bedside tables together — in timber-look WPC, wooden panels on an inside wall, charcoal panels, or an upholstered headboard wall.

For a master bedroom in Goa, choose a large-scale design or mural for the bed wall, sized for the full height of the room, in a vinyl or non-woven paper that tolerates humidity.

In a large master bedroom, choose a rug big enough to sit under the bed and the bedside tables, then a separate rug for the sitting area.

FAQ
With the light and the bed wall. Once we know how dark the room must be, how the sitting area and balcony are used and what goes behind the bed, the curtains, rug and finishes fall into place.
Yes. One visit covers every window and door in the suite, the bed wall, the floor and the en-suite window. You get one written quote and a coordinated fitting.
Yes, and early is best — before the ceilings are finished, so tracks can be recessed and power points placed for motorised curtains. We work with owners, architects and site teams across North and South Goa.
