Classrooms, labs, libraries, staff rooms and AV halls: rooms full of windows, used hard every day, and expected to last for years on fixed funds.

School & College in Goa
Most Goan school buildings were designed for daylight and cross-ventilation — long rows of windows down both sides of a classroom, often with shutters or grilles rather than glass. That works well for air. It works less well now that most rooms have a projector, a smart board or a television, and the afternoon sun lands right across the screen.
A school also asks for durability that a home never does. Blinds get pulled by children, leaned on, hit by balls and tugged during fire drills. Curtains get used as hiding places. Whatever goes up has to tolerate that for years, be repairable when one window breaks, and be safe around small children.
Then there is the monsoon. Many schools close windows less than homes do, so rain blows in, sills stay wet and anything hanging near them stays damp for weeks. Choices that dry quickly and don't mildew matter more than the look.

Use curtains where a school wants softness, darkness or sound absorption: AV rooms, music rooms, libraries and halls.

For most classrooms, a roller or vertical blind in a sturdy screen or dim-out fabric gives the best mix of glare control, durability and cost.
