A blind keeps the window clear of fabric a child can tug, leaves the sill free for books and toys, and — chosen properly — has no cord anywhere a small hand can reach.

Time of day
Light-filtering roller fabric: soft, even light and daytime privacy. For a bedroom, choose blackout fabric and side channels.
In short
In a child's room, choose a cordless roller or a motorised blind, in a blackout or wipe-clean fabric. If a corded blind is unavoidable, fix the cord to a tensioner screwed to the wall, well out of reach. Avoid slatted blinds with ladder cords for young children, and mount the blind so no light leaks around it at nap time.
What your child's room asks of blinds

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
The safest blinds for young children have no cords: spring-assisted cordless rollers you pull down by the bottom bar, and motorised blinds run from a remote. If a corded blind is chosen, the cord or chain must be fixed to a tensioner on the wall so it's held taut and can't form a loop, and positioned high.
Slatted venetian blinds have ladder cords running through the slats which can be pulled into a loop; we don't recommend them for toddlers' rooms.
Even a blackout fabric lets light round the edges if the blind is narrow. For a nursery, mount the blind outside the window frame and overlap the opening on all sides, or use side channels inside the frame. Pairing a blackout blind with a lined curtain gives the darkest result.
Check the bottom too. A blind that stops short of the sill leaves a bright strip right where the afternoon sun lands; ask for the drop to reach the sill or a little below it when mounted outside.
A plain blind in a soft colour lasts longest. If you want a print, a blind is a less expensive surface to change than a whole wall or a set of curtains — but expect to replace it as the child grows.
Light-coloured fabrics glow in strong sun; mid-tones look calmer from inside. Remember that a blackout fabric has a backing colour facing the street, usually white or cream, which keeps the house looking tidy from outside whatever colour faces the child.
As children get older the window often frames a desk. A blind that controls glare on the screen and the page without blocking all daylight — a light-filtering roller or a zebra blind — is better then than full blackout.
In Goa
Air-conditioned children's rooms can form condensation on the glass in the monsoon. Raise blinds during the day so the fabric and the frame can dry, and wipe the window down.
East-facing rooms get strong light from early morning in Goa; a blackout blind there helps children sleep past sunrise.

FAQ
Cordless and motorised blinds, because there's no cord to reach. If a corded blind is used, the cord must be secured to a wall tensioner and kept out of reach.
Blinds save space and suit small rooms; curtains darken the edges better. Many nurseries use both for the darkest result.
Vinyl-coated and polyester roller fabrics can be wiped with a damp cloth.
We don't recommend them for young children because of the ladder cords running through the slats.
Yes, with a motorised blind on a schedule. It also means the parent holds the remote, not the child.
Yes. We visit homes across North and South Goa, measure every window, check where the cot or bed will sit and bring samples.
