Pleated mesh folds into a slim stack, so a wide opening needs no heavy panel and no bottom lip to trip on. Near the sea, plain steel screws and untreated mesh corrode within a season or two. Rinse mesh and track with fresh water after the monsoon.

What the simulator shows
A pleated mosquito net is a concertina of mesh that runs on a slim top and bottom guide. Opened, it folds into a narrow stack at the side; closed, it spans the opening with no heavy panel to push.
That is why the chooser picks it for a very wide opening onto a verandah. The bottom guide is low enough not to trip on, and there is no second panel parked across half the view. Pleated nets are what most people mean by a retractable mosquito net for doors: the screen draws away when you do not need it.
Where the glass already slides, the screen slides too, on a track of its own beside the glass panel. The door or window works exactly as before, and the screen can be parked over the fixed panel when you want the opening clear.
The slider shows this: the screen runs across the opening and back, one panel wide.
French doors open on hinges, so a sliding panel would sit in the way of the leaves. The chooser suggests hinged screen doors that swing with them, or fold clear of the leaves when the doors are open.
Whether the screen sits inside or outside the doors depends on which way the doors open and how deep the frame is. That is a site decision.
A casement opens outward, so the screen goes inside the frame. It can be fixed, or hinged so it swings back for cleaning the glass and reaching the handle. On the slider, the screen fades away rather than moving, because in daily use it stays put.
With Pets chosen, the chooser specifies pet-resistant polyester mesh wherever the house is. Otherwise, near the sea it gives coated fibreglass or polyester mesh; inland, fine fibreglass for Breeze and light, and standard fibreglass for the rest.
Every frame it suggests is powder-coated aluminium. Near the sea, the fixings change to stainless steel as well.

In Goa
Near the sea, plain steel screws and untreated mesh corrode within a season or two, and rust streaks down lime-washed walls. Powder-coated aluminium and stainless fixings are the baseline for a coastal house.
After the monsoon, rinse the mesh and tracks with fresh water to lift the salt. Inland, dust is the bigger nuisance: a soft brush along a sliding track every few weeks keeps it running freely. In a house closed for months, leave pleated and sliding screens parked open so the mesh is not under tension.

Often, yes. Retractable describes any screen that draws away when not in use; the pleated kind shown in the chooser is the most common for doors. Roller types that wind into a cassette are another form.

Pet-resistant polyester mesh. It is thicker and tougher than standard fibreglass, so claws and noses do not push through it as easily.
