For your home
A child's room has to be safe to climb around in, dark at nap time, easy to clean and closed to mosquitoes at dusk — and it has to keep up as the child grows.

Kids Room in Goa
A child's bedroom in Goa works harder than any other room in the house. It's a nursery for a few years, then a playroom, a homework room and finally a teenager's den. Daylight arrives early and bright, afternoon naps happen at the sunniest time of day, and from dusk the mosquitoes come in through every open window.
Safety comes first. Looped blind cords, curtain tiebacks at toddler height, wobbly rods and rugs that slide on polished tiles are the hazards we design out before thinking about colour or pattern. After that, everything has to wash: crayon on the wall, juice on the rug, curtains that smell of the monsoon.
We plan children's rooms in that order — safe, dark when needed, washable, mosquito-proof — and then make them cheerful in ways that can change as the child does.

Choose a washable cotton or polyester face fabric with a blackout lining, hung on a ceiling or wall track that's firmly fixed, with no pull cords and no tiebacks at child height.

In a child's room, choose a cordless roller or a motorised blind, in a blackout or wipe-clean fabric.

For most kids' rooms in Goa, a cotton dhurrie or a low-pile synthetic rug on a non-slip underlay is the right answer: washable, quick to dry, and safe on polished tiles.
