Time of day
Near-total darkness — because the pole runs past the window and the curtain overlaps the frame. Light leaks at the edges, not through the fabric.
In short
For most bedrooms in Goa, choose a lined curtain with a blackout or dim-out lining, hung on a track that runs past the window on both sides and as close to the ceiling as possible. If you like daylight while you dress, add a sheer behind it on a double track. Pick a breathable face fabric so the curtain does not hold monsoon damp.

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
A blackout lining is a dense, coated layer sewn behind the curtain. It makes the room genuinely dark, which suits shift workers, light sleepers, children who nap and anyone in an east-facing room. A dim-out lining lets a faint glow through — the room is dark enough to sleep, but you are not waking in a cave.
A plain cotton lining does neither job fully; it adds body and privacy and protects the face fabric. In a west-facing bedroom that you only use at night, that may be all you need. Hold samples against the actual window in the morning before deciding — light behaves differently in every room.
Most complaints about blackout curtains are really about gaps. Light comes in over a rod fixed just above the frame, down the sides where the curtain stops level with the window, and through the centre where two panels meet.
The fixes are simple when planned at the start: mount the track on the ceiling or high on the wall, extend it 15 to 20 centimetres past each side of the window, let the curtain reach just above the floor, and use an overlap arm in the middle so the two leaves cross instead of meeting edge to edge. Our track planner shows how much extra width the stack needs.
Bedrooms suit quieter colours than living rooms: sand, stone, soft grey-green, muted indigo. Dark colours absorb heat when the sun is on them, so on a window that takes direct afternoon sun, a lighter face fabric with a blackout lining behind it is cooler than a dark curtain on its own.
Texture does a lot in a bedroom. A slubbed linen or a cotton-linen blend looks relaxed and hides creases; a smooth polyester blend is easier to wash and holds its shape. Velvet looks rich but is heavy for a bedroom window that stays shut through the monsoon.
In many Goan bedrooms the bed ends up against the window wall. A full-length curtain then gets caught behind the headboard. A roman blind or a blackout roller fitted inside the recess often works better here, or a curtain that stops at the sill on a short track, so the bed can sit close without crushing fabric.
In Goa
A bedroom with the AC on and the windows shut through a humid week is the perfect place for condensation. On mornings when the rain stops, open the curtains fully and crack the window for an hour; wipe the sill and the frame. A curtain left drawn against wet glass for days will spot.
If you leave Goa for the monsoon, have bedroom curtains taken down, cleaned and stored dry rather than left hanging in a sealed room. Near the coast, ask for an aluminium track and stainless fittings — a rusting hook leaves a brown mark on a pale curtain.

FAQ
A breathable face fabric such as linen, a cotton blend or a good polyester blend, with a blackout or dim-out lining. It darkens the room, keeps the afternoon heat off the glass and stays private at night, while drying out quickly in the monsoon.
Not when they are drawn against the sun — they keep heat out. The coating in a blackout lining faces the window and reflects light back. Open them in the evening and in dry spells so the room and the glass can air.
Just clear of the floor, about a centimetre. That blocks light at the bottom, avoids dust collecting in folds and keeps the hem dry if the floor is mopped.
Yes. We measure around the split unit so the track and the curtain clear it, and position the stack so the AC airflow is not blowing straight into the folds.
Yes. We visit homes across North and South Goa, hold linings and fabrics against your window so you can see how dark each one makes the room, measure, and send a written quote.
