A blind is often the better answer at a bathroom window: it sits flat against the glass, wipes clean and gives you privacy without fabric hanging in the steam.

Tilt the slats to bounce light off the ceiling and keep eyes out. Closed, near-total privacy; open, a striped view.
In short
For a bathroom in Goa, PVC or faux-wood venetian blinds are the most durable choice — they ignore humidity and wipe down in seconds. Where you want softer light, a polyester roller or zebra blind with a moisture-resistant fabric works well away from direct splash. Avoid real wood, bamboo and roman blinds in a bathroom.

The usual bathroom problem is a window you want open for air but closed for privacy. Venetian slats solve that: tilt them upwards and people outside see only the slats while light and air still come in. Nothing else does both as simply.
In PVC or faux wood, venetians also cope with everything a bathroom throws at them. They don't absorb water, so they don't swell, warp or grow mould inside the material. A wipe with a damp cloth and a little mild soap removes splashes and the film that steam leaves behind. Choose white or a pale wood tone and they read like painted shutters.
A roller blind is the tidiest option for a frosted or half-frosted window, where you only need privacy for part of the day. Pick a fabric made for wet rooms — coated polyester or a PVC-faced screen fabric — rather than a standard linen-look roller, which will mark and mottle.
Zebra blinds are best in an en-suite where steam is moderate and the window doesn't get splashed. They look softer and more finished than slats, which matters when the bathroom opens straight off a bedroom. Above a bath or beside an open shower, though, keep to PVC.
Fitting the blind inside the window recess looks neat and keeps it away from the basin and the taps. It needs a recess deep enough to clear the handles, and many Goan bathroom windows — especially older ones with grilles — don't have that depth. In that case we fit the blind on the wall above the frame, slightly wider than the opening, which also cuts the light gap at the sides.
Check whether the window opens inwards or slides. An inward-opening casement will hit a blind fitted inside the frame; a sliding window is easy either way.
Frosted glass gives permanent privacy but no view and no choice. A frosted film is a quick fix for a rented flat but peels in the heat and still blocks the sky. A blind lets you decide — open in the morning for the light, closed when the bathroom is in use. On a window facing a busy road, some owners combine a frosted lower pane with a blind on top for the evening.
In Goa
Between June and September, a bathroom window may never fully dry. That is when timber and bamboo blinds fail and PVC earns its keep. In houses close to the beach, ask for aluminium headrails and stainless or plastic fixings so the brackets don't rust into the plaster.
For homestay and rental en-suites, keep the operation simple — a wand to tilt, a chain or cordless lift — and avoid long loose cords that guests leave dangling in the basin. Blinds that a housekeeper can wipe during turnover save a lot of trouble in the busy season.

FAQ
PVC or faux-wood venetian blinds. They don't absorb water, won't warp or grow mould in the material, and the slats tilt for privacy while letting light and air in.
Yes, with a fabric made for wet rooms such as coated polyester, and away from direct splash. A standard roller fabric will mark in a steamy room.
Not reliably. Real timber swells and warps in the monsoon humidity. Faux wood gives the same look without the movement.
Close the slats, wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap, then tilt the other way and repeat. A quick wipe every week or two in the monsoon keeps mould from settling.
Yes. We measure and fit across North and South Goa, and can do the bathroom alongside the rest of the house in one visit.
