The first thing a visitor sits on is the reception sofa. It has to look composed, stay firm after years of short waits, and clean up after a wet monsoon morning.

Avoid: Anything you cannot clean in place, on a piece used every day. Rub count is one number among several — weave, colour-fastness and how a fabric handles humidity matter as much. We bring samples to see in your room.
In short
Choose a firm, upright sofa with a tight back for reception, two-seaters and compact armchairs for cabins, and a performance or faux-leather fabric that wipes clean. Have it made to the exact space so it lines up with the reception desk and the walkway, and reupholster rather than replace when the fabric wears.

Reception seating is for short waits and many people: firm, upright, easy to clean and arranged so visitors can see the desk. A client lounge or breakout area can be softer and deeper because people stay longer and relax. In a cabin, a small sofa or pair of armchairs should invite an informal conversation without competing with the desk for space.
Planning the three together, in the same family of fabrics and leg finishes, makes an office feel considered from the door to the director's room.
Ask about a fabric's abrasion rating — the number of rubs it survives in testing — and choose a heavier-duty grade for reception than for a cabin. Tight weaves and performance finishes shed spills; open weaves and loose bouclés snag on bags and watch straps.
High-density foam keeps a seat level for years where softer fills sag into a hollow. For a lounge where people sit back, a foam core wrapped in fibre gives comfort without losing shape. If the building asks for fire-retardant upholstery, raise it before we specify the fabric and foam.
Charcoal, slate, navy, tan and deep green hide marks and sit well with most office palettes. Raised legs, rather than a skirt to the floor, make the room look larger and let cleaners mop underneath every day.
If you want a brand colour, use it on cushions or a single accent chair that can be changed easily, and keep the main sofa neutral.
Office sofas usually fail at the fabric and the seat foam long before the frame. Reupholstering in a new fabric, with new foam, gives a reception a fresh look for less disruption than a new purchase. We can also make fitted covers for seating that needs regular washing.
In Goa
In the monsoon, visitors arrive wet. Faux leather, leather and performance fabrics cope; plain cotton and linen absorb water and stain. Keep a dry entry mat and an umbrella stand well away from the reception sofa.
Offices closed over long weekends with the air conditioning off build up humidity, and upholstery can develop a musty smell. Leave some ventilation, and avoid pushing a sofa tight against an outside wall that gets damp in the rains.

FAQ
A tightly woven performance fabric with a high abrasion rating, faux leather or leather. All three clean easily and stand up to daily use better than linen, cotton or loose bouclé.
Yes. We measure the space and build to the length, depth and seat height that suits it, so it lines up with the desk and leaves walkways clear.
Reupholstering a sound frame is usually less disruptive than buying new and lets you choose a fabric that matches a new scheme. We can assess your current seating on the site visit.
Yes — compact two-seaters and armchairs sized for a cabin, in fabrics that match the reception.
