Hall · Sofas
The hall sofa seats the family every evening and the visitors every Sunday. It has to fit a large room, take a crowd on feast days and come through a humid monsoon without sagging or smelling.

Avoid: Anything you cannot clean in place, on a piece used every day. Rub count is one number among several — weave, colour-fastness and how a fabric handles humidity matter as much. We bring samples to see in your room.
In short
For most Goan halls, choose a made-to-measure sofa sized to the room's main wall, with a hardwood or treated frame, high-resilience foam and a performance or tightly woven fabric that wipes clean. Add a second piece — a two-seater, a pair of armchairs or a sofa-cum-bed — so the hall seats guests without borrowing chairs. Keep the backs off damp external walls.
What your hall asks of sofas

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
The traditional arrangement — a three-seater facing a pair of chairs or a two-seater across a centre table — is popular for good reason. It puts visitors face to face for conversation and leaves the edges of the room free for doors. In a long sala, a second smaller grouping at the far end gives the room two places to sit without feeling empty.
In a flat, the hall usually has the television on one wall and the balcony door on another. An L-shaped sofa against the two walls opposite the TV seats the most people and keeps the walk to the balcony open. Leave at least 75 to 90 centimetres for main walkways, more by the front door.
Most of the year a hall sofa seats three or four. At Christmas or a family function the same room may need to seat twenty. Instead of buying a sofa too big for daily life, add flexible pieces: a pair of light armchairs, ottomans that double as storage, or a wooden settee under the windows that takes several people shoulder to shoulder.
If relatives regularly stay over for feasts, a sofa-cum-bed in the hall is often more useful than a spare mattress in a cupboard. Choose a mechanism that opens without moving the centre table across the room.
Mid-tones hide wear better than pale or very dark fabrics: oatmeal, warm grey, olive and soft terracotta all forgive a season of visitors. Textured weaves disguise marks better than flat plain cloth. If you want pale, ask for removable covers so they can go to the cleaners after the feast season.
Leather and rexine are cool to look at but sticky in the humid months and can crack or mould if the hall stays shut. If you like the look, keep the piece out of direct sun and use it regularly; otherwise a woven fabric is the more comfortable choice in Goa.
Firmness is personal, but a hall sofa used by elderly relatives should not be so deep and soft that getting up is a struggle. A seat height around 45 centimetres, a firm high-resilience foam core with a softer wrap, and arms solid enough to push up from make a sofa that everyone in the family can use.
In Goa
Laterite and older plastered walls on the front of the house hold moisture for weeks after the rains begin. Pull the sofa a few centimetres off any external wall so air can move behind it, and lift it on legs rather than a plinth that sits on the floor.
If the house is closed for the monsoon, cover the sofa with breathable cotton rather than plastic, leave the cushions upright and ask someone to open the hall on dry days. Plastic sheeting traps moisture and is the quickest way to a mouldy sofa on your return.

FAQ
Measure the wall it will stand against and keep clear walkways of roughly 75 to 90 centimetres around it. In a large sala a three-seater with a two-seater or a pair of chairs usually fills the space better than a single very long sofa.
Tightly woven or performance fabrics in polyester blends wear and clean well and dry quickly. Avoid loose weaves that catch, and think carefully about leather or rexine in a room that stays shut in the monsoon.
Yes. We make sofas to the length, depth, seat height and firmness you choose, and you pick the fabric from samples seen in your own light.
If the frame is solid hardwood and still firm, re-foaming and re-covering usually gives a better sofa than a low-cost new one. We check the frame on the visit and tell you honestly.
