Bungalow · Sofas
A bungalow rarely has just one sofa. There's the formal one in the front room, the one the family actually lives on, and the seat on the verandah where the evening is spent — and each has a different job.

Avoid: Anything you cannot clean in place, on a piece used every day. Rub count is one number among several — weave, colour-fastness and how a fabric handles humidity matter as much. We bring samples to see in your room.
In short
Treat the sofas in a bungalow as a set. Make the main living-room sofa generous and durable, in a performance or linen-blend fabric; put a timber or outdoor-frame sofa with outdoor cushions on the verandah; and give the family room a hard-wearing sofa with removable covers. Keep the fabrics in one colour family so the rooms flow into each other.

Many Goan bungalows still keep a front sitting room for visitors and a second, more relaxed room where the family watches television. They want different sofas. The front room suits a firmer seat, a slightly upright back and a fabric with some presence — a textured linen, a cotton velvet in a deep colour. The family room wants deep seats, soft cushions and a fabric that can be sponged after a spilled cup of tea.
If your bungalow has only one living room, aim between the two: a medium-depth seat, a durable woven fabric, and a few good cushions that can be changed with the seasons.
In a big room, resist lining everything against the walls. Bring the sofa forward to face the main window or the fireplace wall, put a rug under the front legs, and add chairs opposite. The room becomes a place to talk rather than a corridor with furniture at the edges. A sectional with a low back works well floated in the room because it doesn't block the view across it.
Leave a clear path from the garden door to the rest of the house. In a bungalow, that route gets used a hundred times a day.
The traditional Goan verandah seat is a timber bench or sofa with loose cushions, and it remains the most practical. Use a seasoned, treated hardwood, oil it once a year, and keep its feet off standing water. For the cushions, use outdoor fabric on quick-dry foam with zipped covers. On an open porch or pool deck with no roof, an aluminium or synthetic-rattan frame is the safer choice.
Bungalows tend to hold on to furniture across generations: a teak sofa from a grandparent, a solid 1980s three-seater with sagging cushions. If the frame is sound and free of termites, reupholstering — new webbing, new foam, new fabric — keeps its character and its build quality. We'll look at the frame on the visit and tell you honestly if it's worth it.
In Goa
Ground-floor rooms in a Goan bungalow take the monsoon damp first. Keep sofas a hand's width off the outer walls so air can circulate, open up the room on dry days, and avoid leather and rexine in a room that stays humid — they are the first to show mould spots.
Termites are a real risk to timber frames on the ground floor. Check the legs and the underside before the monsoon, and treat timber sofas that sit on the verandah.

FAQ
Usually larger than you'd choose for a flat — a three-seater with chairs, or a sectional that can be floated in the room. We measure the room and suggest proportions that suit its size and ceiling height.
A treated timber sofa with outdoor fabric cushions on quick-dry foam for a covered verandah; an aluminium or synthetic frame for an open porch or pool deck.
If the frame is solid and free of termite damage, often yes. Older frames are frequently better built than new ones, and reupholstery keeps their character.
A durable woven performance fabric in a mid-tone, or a fitted washable cover. Avoid pale, delicate fabrics in rooms with garden traffic.
