Time of day
Two layers on a double track: the sheer stays drawn for the day, the blackout closes over it at night. The most flexible answer for a bedroom.
In short
For most Goan living rooms, layer two curtains on one track: a sheer in linen or a linen-look polyester for the day, and a lined curtain for the evening. Choose breathable fabrics, hang them from just below the ceiling, and make them wide enough to clear the glass when open.

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
A sheer on its own is right for a living room that faces a garden or the sea and isn't overlooked: it keeps the room bright and cuts glare, and at night you may not need anything more.
If the room faces a road, a neighbour's windows or a busy lane, the evening layer matters. A lined curtain — or a blackout lining where the television needs a dark wall behind it — closes the room completely. Layering both on a double track is the most flexible answer, and the most common one we fit in Goan living rooms.
Sea light is bright and slightly blue in the morning, warm and golden in the late afternoon. Warm neutrals — ivory, sand, oat — look right in both, and they don't fade visibly. Strong colours in direct sun lose their depth within a season or two unless the fabric is solution-dyed or lined.
If the walls are lime-washed white, a curtain one or two shades warmer than the wall reads as calm rather than clinical. Against coloured walls, pick the curtain from the floor or the sofa rather than the wall.
Hang the track or rod as close to the ceiling as the room allows, and let the curtain just kiss the floor — a centimetre clear is easier to keep clean through the monsoon than fabric that pools. Make the track wider than the window so the open curtains stack against the wall, not across the glass.
For fullness, plan about twice the track width in fabric for a pinch-pleat or wave heading; less looks thin, more is hard to stack. Our track planner on the site works out the stack and the track length for you.
A window behind a sofa, a kitchen-side opening or a narrow bay often suits a blind better than a curtain: a roman blind gives the softness of fabric in a fraction of the width, and a zebra blind gives light control without anything to draw. Many living rooms end up with curtains on the main openings and blinds on the awkward ones.
In Goa
From June to September keep living-room curtains drawn back during dry spells so air reaches the fabric and the glass, and wipe condensation off the frames. If the house will be shut for the monsoon, have the curtains taken down, cleaned and stored dry — closed rooms with fabric hanging against a damp wall are where mildew starts.
Near the coast, ask for aluminium tracks and stainless fittings. A plain steel rod can leave a rust line on a cream curtain within one wet season.

FAQ
Linen, linen blends and good linen-look polyesters breathe and dry quickly, which matters in the monsoon. For the evening layer, add a cotton lining or a breathable blackout lining rather than choosing a heavy, tightly woven face fabric.
Just clear it — about a centimetre. Curtains that pool on the floor collect dust and damp through the monsoon and are harder to keep clean.
Usually both, layered: a sheer for the day and a lined or blackout curtain for evenings. A living room rarely needs to be dark, but it often needs to be private.
Normally a pair per opening, drawn to the sides. A single panel that draws to one side works well on a sliding door or a window beside a wall.
