Curtains for a room that sits closed most of the year and then has to give a tired visitor a dark, private, restful sleep at whatever hour they land.

Time of day
A lining protects the face fabric from sun and salt, and makes the curtain properly private at night.
In short
Choose a mid-weight, breathable fabric with a dim-out or blackout lining, on a smooth track any guest can draw without instructions. Keep colours neutral so the room suits anyone, avoid fabrics that mark or crease badly, and plan for the months the room is shut — either aired regularly or with curtains taken down and stored dry.
What your guest room asks of curtains

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
A dim-out lining softens the morning light to a glow — enough for most guests, and kinder to a room that faces a garden. A full blackout lining is worth it if the room faces east, if you often host family flying in from abroad, or if the room doubles as a homestay room in the season.
Either way, hang the curtain a little wider and taller than the window. Light leaks around the edges spoil a blackout lining far more than any weakness in the fabric.
In a guest room you want fabric that hangs well after months untouched and doesn't show creases from being bundled away. Linen blends and good linen-look polyesters drape and recover well; pure cotton creases; velvet holds damp in a closed room. A separate lining protects the face fabric and can be washed on its own.
Avoid very pale plain fabrics that show water marks from a window left open in a storm. A soft oat, stone or warm grey forgives more.
Guests notice whether a room was prepared for them. Curtains that are pressed, hang evenly and draw smoothly say more than any decoration. Leave them half drawn when the guest arrives, with the window open to the breeze, so the room feels aired rather than unlocked.
A simple holdback on the wall keeps open curtains tidy without anyone needing to tie anything.
Many guest rooms are studies, sewing rooms or a place for the ironing for most of the year. A layered scheme — sheer for working light, lined curtain for sleeping — lets the room do both without changing anything when guests arrive.
In Goa
A guest room that won't be used between June and September should either be aired on dry days, with the curtains drawn back from the glass, or have its curtains taken down, cleaned and stored dry until October. Curtains left drawn against a damp window in a shut room are the most common source of mildew we see in Goan homes.
If the room faces the sea, specify aluminium tracks or poles and stainless fittings; a closed room with salty air is hard on low-cost steel.

FAQ
If guests often arrive from abroad or the room faces east, yes. Otherwise, a dim-out lining is usually enough and keeps the room softer.
A breathable linen blend or linen-look polyester with a separate lining. It hangs well after months untouched and tolerates damp better than velvet or heavy cotton.
Air the room on dry days with the curtains drawn back, or have them taken down, cleaned and stored dry until the house opens again.
Warm neutrals — oat, stone, soft white, warm grey. They suit any guest and forgive marks better than very pale fabrics.
