One papered wall can change a living room more than new furniture — a botanical mural behind the sofa, a grasscloth texture behind the television — as long as the wall is dry and the paper suits the climate.

In short
Paper one feature wall, preferably an internal one, in a vinyl or non-woven wallpaper that can be wiped and tolerates humidity. Have the wall checked for damp and seepage first, and hang it in the dry season, after the walls have had time to dry out from the monsoon.
What your living room asks of wallpaper
See it in your living room
We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
Choose the wall you see as you walk in, or the one you face from the sofa — behind the sofa, behind the television, or the end wall of a long room. Internal walls are the safest in Goa; if the best wall is external, it needs a damp check before anything else.
Avoid the window wall. A pattern broken by a large opening rarely looks good, and it is the wall most likely to take in rain around the frame. Walls with a lot of switches, sockets and air-conditioner pipes are harder to paper neatly too, so count them before you fall for a print.
Botanicals and tropical prints suit Goan houses and bring the garden indoors; grasscloth-effect and linen-effect textures add warmth without a pattern; geometrics sit well in flats and modern villas. On a high wall, a larger repeat or a mural keeps the wall calm, while a small busy repeat starts to vibrate at that size.
Bring samples home and look at them in daylight and under your own lamps. Metallic and pearl finishes change a great deal between the two, and a paper that glows at night can look flat at noon. Large samples taped to the wall for a few days tell you far more than a swatch book.
The wall must be dry, sound and smooth. Old lime wash, distemper or flaking paint has to come off; cracks need filling and the surface needs sealing so the paste grips evenly. In older houses, ask for the wall to be checked with a moisture meter rather than judged by eye.
Plan the hanging for the dry months, from roughly October to May, once the walls have had time to dry out after the rains. Paper hung on a wall still holding monsoon moisture can lift at the seams within weeks.
Keep the room ventilated through the wet months and avoid standing a tall cupboard flat against a papered external wall, which stops air reaching it. Wipe marks with a soft damp cloth rather than scrubbing, and deal with a lifting seam early, before moisture gets under it.
If the wall faces strong afternoon sun through a big window, a sheer or a blind on that window protects the print as much as the furniture.
In Goa
Most wallpaper failures we see in Goa come from the wall, not the paper: a parapet that lets rain in, a window sill that sends water down the inside, a bathroom pipe on the other side. Find the source, fix it, let the wall dry, then paper in the dry season.
Near the sea, salt carried in the plaster can come through as a white bloom. It needs treating before any paper goes up — or, on a wall that will never be fully dry, moisture-resistant panels are the more honest choice.

FAQ
Yes, on a dry wall with a vinyl or non-woven paper, hung in the dry season. Damp walls cause the trouble, not the climate on its own.
Usually an internal wall behind the sofa or television, or the end wall of a long room. Avoid the window wall.
Vinyl and coated papers can be wiped with a damp cloth. Uncoated papers mark more easily, so keep them for walls that aren't touched.
