Time of day
Near-total darkness — because the pole runs past the window and the curtain overlaps the frame. Light leaks at the edges, not through the fabric.
In short
Choose a washable cotton or polyester face fabric with a blackout lining, hung on a ceiling or wall track that's firmly fixed, with no pull cords and no tiebacks at child height. Keep the curtain fabric plain or softly patterned so it lasts beyond the cartoon years, and add colour through a rug or cushions instead.
What your child's room asks of curtains

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
A blackout lining stops light passing through the fabric, but light still escapes around the edges. For a nursery, run the track at least 15–20 cm beyond each side of the window and close to the ceiling, and let the curtain fall to just above the floor. A curtain that overlaps in the centre also helps.
Some parents prefer a dimmed rather than black room so the child isn't frightened on waking. A dim-out lining gives a softer level of darkness, and a small night light does the rest.
We use tracks rather than rods with finials in small children's rooms, fix them into solid wall or ceiling, and avoid pull cords — wands or simply hand-drawing work fine. Tiebacks, if used, go high enough that a child can't reach them, or are replaced by holdbacks.
Keep cots and beds away from windows so a child can't climb onto a sill or reach a curtain from the bed.
Cotton and cotton-polyester blends wash easily and stay soft. A detachable lining lets you wash the face fabric without the heavier blackout layer. Avoid velvet and delicate silks, which mark and don't wash well.
Mid-tone and patterned fabrics hide marks; very pale plain fabrics show every hand print. Ask for curtains made with hooks that come out easily, so taking them down for the wash is a five-minute job rather than a project.
Choose a curtain that will still suit at ten — a stripe, a check, a soft colour — and let the theme live in bedding, cushions, a rug or one papered wall. These are easy to change; curtains and tracks aren't.
If two children share the room, a neutral curtain also avoids the argument about whose favourite colour wins. Each child can have their own bedding and a corner of the wall instead.
In Goa
Children's rooms are often kept closed and air-conditioned at night, then shut up during the day — the perfect conditions for damp. Open curtains on dry days so the fabric and window can air, and wash curtains after the rains.
A sea-facing east window brings bright, early light; blackout curtains there make a huge difference to early waking.

FAQ
Yes, especially for babies and toddlers who nap during the day. Run the track wide and high so less light leaks around the edges.
Washable cotton or cotton-polyester blends, ideally with a detachable lining so the face fabric can be washed easily.
Loose cords and loops are a strangulation risk. We fit curtains that are drawn by hand or by wand, with no cords within reach.
Usually not. Plain or simply patterned curtains last longer; put the theme in bedding, cushions or a rug.
