Guest-room curtains that make the room dark, wash easily between stays, survive being yanked open by people in a hurry, and still look good in the listing photographs.

Time of day
Near-total darkness — because the pole runs past the window and the curtain overlaps the frame. Light leaks at the edges, not through the fabric.
In short
For a homestay, put blackout-lined curtains in every guest bedroom, choose washable, mid-tone fabrics that hide everyday marks, and use strong headings on tracks rather than rings on rods. Keep one spare set per room size so a stained curtain can be swapped on the day, and plan a wash before the season starts.
What your homestay asks of curtains

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
A guest room only needs to fail once on darkness to get a comment. Blackout-lined curtains, made a little wider than the window with an overlap at the centre, are the most reliable fix. If light leaks at the sides, a track that returns to the wall closes the gap.
Avoid stiff, coated blackout fabrics that crackle and smell of plastic in the heat. A modern blackout lining sewn behind a soft face fabric looks and hangs like a normal curtain.
Choose polyester or poly-cotton blends that wash well and dry quickly in Goa's humidity. Mid-tones — sand, olive, soft blue, terracotta — hide marks far better than white or black. A small pattern hides more still.
Ask how the curtain should be washed before ordering. A curtain that must be dry-cleaned will be left dirty for longer than one that can go in with the linen.
The least expensive curtains look fine in the first photograph and tired by the second season — thin fabric fades, linings separate, eyelets pull out. The most expensive are wasted on rooms where guests drag suitcases past them.
The sweet spot for most homestays is a mid-weight, washable fabric with a good blackout lining and a strong heading. It costs more at the start than a ready-made pair but lasts through many more washes and seasons.
If your rooms have similar windows, standardise curtain sizes. One spare set in the store cupboard means a curtain stained by a guest can be replaced the same afternoon and the dirty one washed without pressure. It also makes the annual pre-season refresh far simpler.
In Goa
After the monsoon, curtains in a closed homestay often smell musty even if they look clean. Take them down, wash and dry them fully in the sun, and check linings for mildew spots before the first booking. If they've been in a damp room all season, replacing linings costs less than replacing curtains.
Near the beach, check tracks and fittings for rust; a brown streak on a cream curtain is the kind of detail guests photograph. Aluminium tracks and stainless fittings avoid it.

In guest bedrooms, nearly always. The early, bright Goan morning is a frequent reason guests sleep badly in an unlined room.
At least before each season, and whenever they are marked or smell musty. Common-area curtains may need it more often in peak season.
