Homestay & Airbnb · Mosquito Nets
Mosquitoes are a complaint guests remember and write about. Good nets on every opening — and nets guests can't forget to close — are the simplest fix.

The opening
What matters most
Setting
System
Pleated screen, side-opening
Mesh
Coated fibreglass or polyester mesh
Frame
Powder-coated aluminium, stainless fixings
Pleated mesh folds into a slim stack, so a wide opening needs no heavy panel and no bottom lip to trip on. Near the sea, plain steel screws and untreated mesh corrode within a season or two. Rinse mesh and track with fresh water after the monsoon.
In short
Fit fixed nets to guest-room windows so they work without anyone remembering to close them, sliding or pleated nets to doors guests use, and check every net before the season. Re-mesh torn nets rather than replacing frames, and choose aluminium frames that won't rust near the coast.
What your homestay asks of mosquito nets
See it in your homestay
We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
The best homestay net is one guests don't have to think about. On windows that guests open for air, a fixed or sliding net that stays closed means the room is protected even if they open the window at seven in the evening.
On doors, choose nets with smooth tracks, magnetic or brushed edges and a clear handle. If closing the net is awkward, it will be left open.
Walk every net before the first booking. Look for tears, gaps at the edges, frames that don't close and worn brushes. A small tear lets in as many mosquitoes as an open window.
Re-meshing a good frame is quick and economical. Replace frames only if they are bent or corroded.
A short note in the welcome folder — close nets at dusk, keep doors shut when lights are on — helps. Guests from cooler climates often don't realise how quickly mosquitoes come in after sunset.
Show it in the listing too. A photograph of a netted verandah door or a line saying every window is netted reassures guests before they book, and answers the question before it becomes a review.
Guests cook and eat late, often with the kitchen door open to let out the heat. A sliding net on that door, and on any window over the counter, keeps the evening comfortable. Kitchen nets collect grease, so choose mesh that can be wiped or removed for washing.
In common rooms used by several sets of guests, nets on every opening matter more than in private rooms: one guest leaving a door open affects everyone.
Choose strong mesh and solid aluminium frames. Children push against nets, luggage scrapes them, and pets of visiting guests scratch at them. Stronger mesh options and a sturdy bottom rail resist this far better than light, flimsy nets.
Keep a record of each net and its size. When one fails mid-season, you can order a re-mesh straight away rather than waiting for a measuring visit.
In Goa
The weeks after the rains, when gardens and pots hold water, are often the worst for mosquitoes — and exactly when homestays reopen. Clear standing water around the property and check every net before the first guests arrive.
Near the beach, choose aluminium frames and stainless fittings. Steel frames corrode quickly in salt air.

FAQ
They can. A night of bites is something guests remember and write about. Nets on every opening keep most mosquitoes out of the rooms.
Fixed or sliding nets on windows, and sliding or pleated nets on doors. Choose designs that are easy to close.
Yes. Re-meshing a sound frame is quick and economical.
Before every season, and after any guest reports a problem.
Bed nets help, but guests find them fiddly and they don't protect the rest of the room. Window and door nets keep the whole room comfortable.
