The windows a curtain can't serve well — cottage bathrooms, veranda edges, spa pavilions and the open sides of a beach restaurant — are where a resort needs blinds.

Time of day
Split bamboo: you see out but not in by day, and the breeze still moves. At night, lamps on, the view reverses.
In short
Use blinds where fabric curtains would get wet, sandy or in the way: bamboo chik or outdoor blinds on veranda edges, blackout rollers behind guest-room curtains to close the light gaps, and wipe-clean PVC or faux-wood blinds in bathrooms. Keep every outdoor fitting in aluminium or stainless steel.
What the resort asks of blinds

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
Walk the property with a guest's eyes. The bathroom window that looks onto the path, the veranda that becomes unusable at four o'clock, the spa pavilion where a therapist needs dim, even light, the bar deck that catches spray in a westerly wind. Each of those is better served by a blind than by fabric hung from a rod.
In guest bedrooms, a blind rarely replaces the curtain. It sits behind it: a blackout roller in the window reveal, with the curtain in front providing the softness and the look. Together they give a darker room than either alone.
Chik blinds in split bamboo are the natural choice for a cottage veranda in Goa. They cut the sun but keep air moving, and from the inside you still see the garden. Fit them with a cord or a simple roll-up so staff and guests can raise them when the light softens.
Where the deck is more exposed — on the beach side, by the pool bar, on an upper-floor terrace — an outdoor blind in a weather-rated fabric does better. Plan how it will be fixed down in wind; a blind flapping loose in a pre-monsoon squall is noisy for guests and short-lived. For larger openings, retractable awnings stop the sun before it reaches the deck at all.
Many resort bathrooms have a high window or a glazed wall onto a private garden. A PVC or faux-wood venetian tilts for privacy while letting steam escape, and housekeeping can wipe it in a minute. Avoid real timber and fabric rollers anywhere they are splashed daily.
Spa treatment rooms usually want dim, consistent light at any hour. A blackout roller combined with a translucent fabric blind on the same window lets the therapist choose between darkness and a soft daylight glow.
As with curtains, record the specification once: blind type, fabric or slat colour, control side, fixing position and the exact mounting detail. Cottages built in different phases often have slightly different reveals, so we measure every opening during the site survey rather than relying on drawings.
In Goa
Chik and outdoor blinds on exposed verandas should be raised and tied, or taken down, before the monsoon arrives in June. Bamboo left lowered in driving rain will discolour and can develop mould; outdoor fabrics last far longer if they are not left extended in storms.
When the property reopens, check the mechanisms on the sea-facing side first. Fine sand and salt build up over a season, and a quick clean before guests arrive avoids jammed blinds in the first week.

FAQ
Bamboo chik blinds for sheltered verandas, and weather-rated outdoor blinds for exposed decks. Both should be raised or removed for the monsoon.
Curtains usually, with a blackout roller behind them where guests need full darkness. The combination is darker and more comfortable than either on its own.
PVC or faux-wood venetians. They tolerate steam, wipe clean and give adjustable privacy. Avoid timber and fabric in rooms that are splashed daily.
Yes. We survey every opening, make in batches labelled by room, and fit block by block around occupancy.
They do when they are properly fixed and retracted in storms. We plan the fixing and the monsoon routine at the survey stage.
