Curtains for every room of a holiday villa, planned together — light and soft in the living space, properly dark in the bedrooms, and able to sit through a closed monsoon without spotting.

A lining protects the face fabric from sun and salt, and makes the curtain properly private at night.
In short
Treat a villa as one order with three kinds of room: the open living space (sheers or light linen on wide tracks that clear the pool doors), the bedrooms (lined or blackout so guests can sleep past sunrise), and the service spaces (often better with blinds). Choose breathable fabrics, aluminium tracks, and plan from day one how the curtains come down and get stored when the villa closes for the rains.
What your villa asks of curtains

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
Start with a list of every opening, room by room, and mark which face the pool, which face the road or a neighbour, and which take the afternoon sun. In most villas a pattern appears quickly: the shared spaces want light and view, the bedrooms want privacy and darkness, the bathrooms and kitchen want something wipeable.
Then choose two or three fabrics, not ten. One sheer for every living-area opening, one lined fabric in a couple of colourways for the bedrooms, and perhaps one accent for the owner's room. The villa feels coherent, and when one curtain is stained by a guest or marked by a leaking window you can replace it without hunting for a match.
In a let villa, sleep is the comment that appears in reviews. Morning light in Goa arrives early and bright, and an unlined cotton glows like a lampshade at six o'clock. A blackout lining, curtains that overlap at the centre, and a track that wraps round to the wall at each end are what make a room genuinely dark.
If the bedroom also opens onto a garden or the pool, add a sheer on the same double track. Guests can keep the door open for air in the afternoon without sitting on display to the rest of the villa.
Water throws light upward and into the room, so a pool-facing living space can feel glaring even when the sun is behind the house. A sheer in an off-white or sand tone softens that reflected light far more than a white one, which only adds to the brightness.
Where the villa's main glass faces west, the hour before sunset is the hard one. A sheer handles glare; if furniture and floors are fading, a lined curtain drawn for that hour costs far less than replacing the sofa every few years.
Ask how the curtain will be cleaned before you fall in love with it. Washable linens, cotton blends and good polyesters can be laundered locally; velvet and silk-look fabrics usually need dry cleaning that has to be organised from a distance.
Detachable linings help twice over: the face fabric can be washed on its own, and the lining — the part that holds damp — can be dried or replaced separately.
In Goa
A closed villa in July holds damp air against everything. Curtains left drawn across a sweating window develop mildew spots along the hem and a musty smell that doesn't wash out easily. If the villa will be empty for more than a few weeks, have the curtains taken down, cleaned, dried thoroughly and stored in breathable bags — or ask us to do it as part of our monsoon take-down service.
If they must stay up, leave them open, away from the glass, and ask the caretaker to open the house on dry days. Near the sea, check that tracks, gliders and screws are aluminium or stainless; a rusting bracket above a cream curtain is a stain that arrives in a single wet season.

FAQ
Usually a mix: sheers on the living-room and pool openings, blackout or lined curtains in the bedrooms, all in breathable fabrics on aluminium tracks. The right answer depends on which way each room faces and whether the villa is let.
For a holiday or rental villa, yes in almost every case. People on holiday sleep late and the Goan sunrise is early and bright. A blackout lining with an overlap at the centre and returns at the sides makes the room properly dark.
They can, but they are better taken down, cleaned and stored dry. If they stay, leave them open and away from the glass, and have the house aired on dry days.
Yes — that is how we prefer to plan a villa. We choose a small set of fabrics and colourways that work in every room, so the house reads as one and replacements are easy.
Yes. We visit villas anywhere in Goa, bring samples to see against your pool and garden light, and measure every opening in one visit.
