Curtains for a room you work in: they need to tame glare on the screen, keep the afternoon heat off the desk, quieten a hard room and still look good behind you on a call.

Time of day
Two layers on a double track: the sheer stays drawn for the day, the blackout closes over it at night. The most flexible answer for a bedroom.
In short
For most home offices in Goa, a lined linen or cotton curtain over a light-filtering sheer works best: the sheer stays drawn while you work to kill glare, and the lined layer closes for calls, heat or a dark room. Choose a fabric with some weight for sound, hang it wide so it clears the glass, and keep the colour calm because it will be on camera.

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
Before choosing a fabric, sit at the desk at the time you usually work and look at where the light hits. If the window is beside you, a sheer will usually be enough during the day. If it is behind the screen, you need something that cuts the brightness of the sky without making the room gloomy — a denser sheer or a light-filtering lined curtain.
If the window is behind you, it is the screen and the camera that suffer: reflections on the monitor and a face in shadow. Here a fully lined curtain that you can close during calls, with lamps in front of you, gives the best result. Moving the desk often costs less than any curtain, and we will say so on the visit.
Cameras exaggerate contrast. A white sheer with bright sun behind it blows out to a glowing rectangle; a strongly patterned curtain flickers and distracts. Mid-tone, matte fabrics — oat, stone, sage, a soft grey-blue — read as calm and keep the camera's exposure on your face.
Folds matter as well. Curtains pulled into a bunch on one side look untidy; a ripple-fold or neat pinch-pleat heading hangs in even columns. If the curtain is your background, ask for enough fullness that it never looks stretched when closed.
A curtain will not soundproof a room, but in a tiled Goan study it makes a real difference to echo. The more fabric and the denser the weave, the more it absorbs — a lined, full-length curtain across a wide window is far better than a short panel. Leaving it closed during calls helps more than leaving it open.
Pair it with something soft underfoot and on one wall and the room stops sounding like a bathroom. Our wall-panel and rug pages cover the rest of the room; the curtain is usually the least expensive first step.
A child's desk usually sits in their bedroom, so the curtain has two jobs: daylight for homework and dark for sleep. A blackout-lined curtain over a sheer handles both. Choose fabric that can be taken down and washed, and keep cords and loose tiebacks out of reach of small children.
In Goa
The low sun from the west across the Arabian Sea is the main enemy of a home office from about three in the afternoon until sunset, especially from October to May. A lined curtain closed across west glass keeps the desk noticeably cooler — useful when a power cut takes the air conditioner but the inverter keeps your laptop and router running.
In the monsoon the problem flips: dark mornings and damp. Keep curtains drawn back on dry days so the window and the fabric dry out, and do not let lined curtains sit pressed against a sweating pane. Rooms near the coast should have aluminium tracks; steel rods corrode in salt air and mark pale fabric.

FAQ
Usually a layered pair: a sheer you leave drawn while working to soften glare, and a lined curtain for calls, heat and evenings. If the room doubles as a bedroom or guest room, make the second layer blackout.
Yes, noticeably in a tiled room. A full, lined, floor-length curtain absorbs far more sound than a blind or a short panel. It will not stop noise from outside, but it makes your voice sound closer and clearer.
A matte mid-tone — sand, stone, sage, muted blue or grey. Pure white blows out with light behind it, and dark or busy prints draw attention away from your face.
Blinds give finer control of glare at the desk; curtains do more for sound and look softer on camera. Many studies end up with a blind on the window beside the desk and curtains on the larger opening.
