Master Bedroom · Rugs & Carpets
A master bedroom often has two rooms in it — the bed and the sitting area — and each deserves its own rug.

In a sitting area, the front legs of every sofa and chair should rest on the rug, with a margin of bare floor around it. We confirm the size on site, against the real furniture.
In short
In a large master bedroom, choose a rug big enough to sit under the bed and the bedside tables, then a separate rug for the sitting area. Wool and hand-knotted rugs suit air-conditioned suites; flatweaves suit rooms open to the balcony. Plan for monsoon care, especially if the villa is closed for part of the year.

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
In a master bedroom, the generous option works: a rug that runs under the whole bed and bedside tables, extending 60 to 90 centimetres beyond each side. For a king bed, that often means 250 × 350 cm or more.
Leave a border of floor showing between the rug and the walls — around 30 to 45 centimetres in most rooms — so the stone or wood still frames it. If the bed sits on a raised platform, the rug starts at the platform's foot instead, and runners along each side may be neater than one large piece.
A second, smaller rug under the armchairs and the coffee table defines the sitting area. It can be a different design that shares a colour with the main rug.
Let the front legs of each chair rest on it, so the group reads as one. If the sitting area is beside the balcony door, choose a flatweave or low pile here — it will see sandy feet and the odd gust of rain, and should be easy to lift and dry.
With two rugs, a bed wall and long curtains in one room, decide which one carries the pattern. A richly patterned hand-knotted rug sits best with a plain or textured bed wall and solid curtains; a panelled or papered statement wall calls for a quieter rug. Carry one colour from the main rug into the sitting-area rug and the cushions so the room feels planned rather than collected.
Hand-knotted rugs suit the master bedroom because traffic is light and they can be appreciated. Wool rugs are softer and simpler. Wall-to-wall carpet is only for suites that stay air-conditioned and dry; in a Goan room open to the balcony, it holds moisture.
In Goa
Large rugs dry slowly. In the monsoon, keep the suite aired, lift a corner occasionally to check the floor, and avoid thick pile in rooms without AC.
If the villa is closed, roll rugs around a tube, wrap them in breathable cotton and store them off the floor in a dry room. Have hand-knotted rugs professionally cleaned after the monsoon.

FAQ
Usually around 250 × 350 cm or larger, so it extends under the bedside tables and well beyond the sides.
Yes, in an air-conditioned or well-ventilated room, with airing in the monsoon and professional cleaning after it.
Only in a suite that stays air-conditioned and dry. Otherwise, rugs are better.
Yes — it defines the area and makes the room feel planned. Choose one that shares a colour with the bed rug but is lighter in pile if it sits near the balcony door.
Use a good anti-slip underlay cut slightly smaller than the rug. It holds the rug in place, cushions it and lets air move underneath, which helps it dry in the monsoon.
