Luxury Villa · Rugs & Carpets
In a large, stone-floored villa, a rug makes a room within the room. At this level it is usually hand-knotted, sized to the furniture and chosen as part of the whole scheme.

In a sitting area, the front legs of every sofa and chair should rest on the rug, with a margin of bare floor around it. We confirm the size on site, against the real furniture.
In short
Size each rug to the furniture group rather than the room — large living rooms often need a custom size. Hand-knotted wool is the most durable and forgiving choice in Goa; keep silk and silk blends for quiet, air-conditioned rooms, avoid viscose altogether, and plan how each rug will be cared for through the monsoon.
What your luxury villa asks of rugs & carpets

We bring samples to your home, hold them to your light and measure every opening — anywhere in North or South Goa.
The rug should hold the whole seating group, with every front leg on it and ideally all legs. Leave a band of floor showing around the edge so the stone or timber frames it; a rug that runs nearly wall to wall loses that effect and starts to look like a carpet.
In very large spaces, two or three rugs that each define a zone — the main seating, a reading corner, the dining table — make the room feel organised rather than empty.
Hand-knotted rugs are tied knot by knot onto the warp, so the pile is locked in. They can be washed, re-fringed and repaired for decades. Tufted rugs are glued to a backing and shed and wear faster; flatweaves have no pile and suit relaxed rooms and covered terraces.
For the main rooms of a luxury villa, hand-knotted wool is the best long-term value, even when the initial spend is higher.
Silk and wool-and-silk rugs have a lovely sheen that changes with the light. They stain with water and show traffic, so keep them for a bedroom suite or a formal sitting room that is air-conditioned and lightly used.
Viscose, sold as 'art silk' or 'bamboo silk', marks permanently with water and flattens quickly. In a Goan villa with a pool and a monsoon it is best avoided.
A plain jute or wool base rug with a smaller antique piece laid over it adds depth to a large living room and lets you show a special rug without needing it in a huge size. Pick the rug's colours from the curtains and upholstery so the room reads as one design.
In Goa
A wool rug lying on a cool stone floor in a closed villa can grow mustiness or mould on its underside. Keep air moving with fans or dehumidifiers, lift rugs on dry days, or have them cleaned and stored for the rains with our monsoon service.
When the villa reopens, air rugs in the sun for a day and vacuum both faces before laying them back. Sun and moving air do more against damp than any chemical treatment.

FAQ
Yes. Hand-knotted wool handles humidity well as long as there is airflow and the rug is cleaned regularly. It is the most durable choice for a villa's main rooms.
Yes. Custom sizes are common in large villa living rooms where standard sizes leave the furniture half on the floor.
Only in quiet, air-conditioned rooms. Silk stains easily with water and shows wear in busy areas.
Keep air moving, lift rugs off damp floors on dry days, and have them cleaned and stored if the villa will be closed.
